Langkawi Sun

September 28, 2010 at 7:04 pm (friends, life!, pictures)

well Langkawi is in Malaysia, and you all know how i feel about Malaysia as a holiday destination. we had originally intended to hit Thailand, but didn’t want to miss our flights back to London due to any sort of unrest.

still, as sun/sand/sea vacations go by, it was a pretty good trip overall. plus, there were loads of opportunities for cool-looking facebook profile pics – case in point above, an impromptu shot thanks to Nick. (believe me i couldn’t muster the same pout in a 100 tries hahah)

we stayed at Berjaya hotel for two nights as it came highly recommended on this list. it had a really interesting concept and design – each hotel room was in a little chalet, and as a result the hotel was sprawled over a massive area. you had to rely on a shuttle bus service to get you back to your room.

the hotel pool on our first morning there. we arrived early and had to wait a bit before checking in, thus we decided to check out the pool first. it had a gorgeous backdrop – think lush tropical canopies and tall misty mountains!

hahah i love Jin, he just cracks me up

plugged into Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” here. i know, great choice of song for the occasion huh?

the stretch of road leading back to our chalet.

checking in!

the view from our balcony

our hotel’s private beach. it’s actually one of the best beaches in Langkawi.

sundeck chairs

chess by the beach!

i think i passed on this occasion, although not before quickly playing out the English Defense. old habits die hard.

our only group shot, which almost didn’t happen because Jin was annoyed with his hair.

me: (hands camera to tourist) hurry up Jin!

Jin: ARGH my hair…(while frantically trying to rearrange his hair)

Tourist: you can always photoshop it when you are back!

Jin: moans and grumbles some more. IN FRONT OF THE TOURIST.

hence the grimace.

Chinese seafood dinner. don’t ask me why we ordered 2 lobsters..they were pretty expensive. plus with all the sauce masking its taste we were better of eating chicken. chicken with Chinese stir-fried gravy.

the European way of serving lobster is so much better – on it’s own, with just butter and a dash of lemon.

my chicken with Chinese stir-fried gravy.

waterfall trekking early the next morning.

this monkey stole our bags. TWICE. we had to post a sentry after that, although it was quite a sight watching Jin chase after it for his bag.

monkey, meet Jin. Jin, meet monkey.

now Jin has this annoying penchant for cutting off people at the legs. i mean like seriously, who the &%#*% takes pictures of people with the lower half cut off??

he got back at me by taking a whole series of pictures with my legs only. i only found out when i got back home.

i, on the other hand, take National Geographic-worthy pictures of him. where’s the justice in this world.

waterfall time! climbing up towards the big one. the pool was so cold, it was a huge challenge just getting to the end and underneath the waterfall.

pit stop for a picture.

these guys are nuts. they were climbing all the way up and jumping off

surveying the journey ahead

the arduous trek begins. like i said, colddddd! basically we were playing chicken to see who could get closer to the waterfall.

haha i don’t know why i look like i’m holding Nick’s arm here

aww he’s in already!

me probably having second thoughts

yep definitely having second thoughts

but who’d have guessed it, Nick chickens first! hahahah

CHICKENNNNN

me inching towards the goal

and finally making it to the holy grail

definitely a grimace, that.

monkey pics are hilarious. more please. i imagine the monkey to be thoroughly traumatized by a fully clothed, unfurry version of itself.
