Island Hopping

October 4, 2010 at 12:21 am (friends, life!, pictures)

the boat cruise!

yachting :]

me and Nick were discussing how great it’d be if there were those two giant statues with their hands up like in the LOTR movie at this pass. (and because i’m a geek, i know the 2 statues are called Argonaths, carved in the likeness of Isildor and Anárion. unfortunately i’ve forgotten the name of the river they were guarding)

from that we went on to discuss how cool it would be if there were actually an LOTR-themed amusement park, and then on to how we would go about setting up one after finishing med school. and how it’d be the most awesome theme park in the world. keep your eyes peeled for that one.

our first stop – an island with a gigantic lake for swimming. it’s deep! like 30 metres down.

where in the world is Nick?

and because we are just cooler swimming with our shades on

this is how the Koreans roll – with towels over their head to prevent sun exposure. tacky yes, but they’ll be having the last laughs when they are 50. or so Jin says.

PS well okay because i’m a medic i feel like i have a moral obligation to say that he’s probably right; UV rays are the main cause of skin aging and a whole load of other nasty things like mole-growing and melanomas.

PPS i’m still not putting that towel over my head.

the long climb back to the boat

eagle feeding time!

the boatman put some pieces of chicken into the water, and within moments the air was filled with hundreds of eagles. quite a spectacle!

Jin disembarking the boat onto the next island with his plastic bag tote.

hahah i’d like to believe that i went about it in a slightly more glamorous fashion.

new island, new beach!

shortly after this picture was taken, we went down to take a dip in the sea, completely oblivious to the fact that a monkey had crept up to Nick’s bag and was rummaging through it.

if not for the fact that the people in the background alerted us and some frantic shouting on our part, the monkey would probably have gotten away with Nick’s passport. (don’t ask me why he brought it along for our island-hopping escapade; who knows we might have ended up in Hawaii or something)

i can totally imagine the scene at immigrations while explaining a monkey-related passport theft – not a very pretty one.

back at our hotel beach at sundown. Jin hunting little marine animals.

he’s got one! he’s got one!

i think it was a crab. yes, he got attacked by a pincer in the process.

haha it’s hilarious how he’s completely lost in his own world. we bought a frisbee as we thought we might get bored during the island-hopping, but didn’t get the chance to use it and so decided to chuck it for it bit on returning to the hotel beach.

tried getting Jin in on it too, but as you can see from the background….

..he fell through the closet into Narnia. probably meeting Reepicheep here.

beautiful sunset over the hotel. (this picture doesn’t do it justice) lying back watching the sun set by the beach was just magical. now that’s something i could imagine myself doing everyday.
